Our History
From 1976 until today: follow the history of VBM going through the main milestones of our company.
Foundation
Carlo Ernesto Valente founded VBM on 12th January 1976, at the historic site in Via Mauro Macchi, Milan.
This was when our technicians and mechanics started manufacturing espresso coffee machines fitted with the VBM 1961 dispensing unit, an evolution of the VBM 1961 but with enhanced thermal stability.
Towards the end of the 70s, VBM entered the home use segment, creating the first home coffee machine in history: Domobar.
Expansion
In 1985 the company was joined by a new shareholder, Pietro Osnato, who brought with him a more pragmatic, growth-oriented market strategy. VBM grew from a machine workshop into a fully-fledged commercial enterprise. The result was Dosatronic, the first electronic version of Replica, and the relaunch of Domobar Super.
Towards new horizons
VBM continued to grow, and expanded abroad: its network of distributors reached northern Europe, Spain and Portugal. The company sharpened its focus on design, responding to a market that wanted their machines to match their interior design.
This led to a revamp of the historic Replica and Domobar models. Cube, R-Evolution and Lollo were the other models launched in this period. To this day, Lollo is still part of our product range, guaranteeing high quality technology at affordable prices for businesses operating with smaller coffee volumes.
Our 40-year anniversary and the launch of Tecnique
VBM celebrated its 40th anniversary with a new aim: producing technologically advanced machines able to offer high performance to all baristas. Hence the Tecnique line was launched, a machine equipped with a new extraction technology: the TS System with two independent circuits guaranteeing total thermal stability and clean water at all times.
The new Domobar line and the concept “We make it simple”
At HostMilano, VBM presented a restyling of its famous Domobar line and a brand-new market positioning. The payoff “We make it simple” (and the related video campaign) reinforced the company’s goal: conceiving and manufacturing innovative and easy-to-use espresso machines.
The charm of Black Moon and the revolution of Tecnique HX
At HostMilano, VBM presented Black Moon, the first covered espresso machine designed by VBM, with a sinuous silhouette and a light beam casted by the LEDs nested on the cup warmer.
The company presented the three directions to be followed from now on: technological evolution, energy consumption reduction and the advent of Bulloneasy, the system conceived to speed up service interventions on VBM espresso machines.
